How we make the lists

Each guide comes from public Reddit threads where someone asks what to give (most-used communities: r/GiftIdeas, r/AskReddit, r/preguntaleareddit, r/BuyItForLife, r/AskArgentina, r/chile, r/AskOldPeople, r/AskMenOver30, r/Gifts, r/AskWomenOver30). We scanned 11,750 comments across 113 threads; the lists count 949 recommendations from 933 different people.

  1. We read direct answers only (top-level comments), excluding the original poster and bots.
  2. We detect products with a Spanish/English word list (e.g. "pantuflas", "slippers").
  3. We drop anything that isn't a recommendation: negative sentences ("please no…", "I don't want…"), warnings ("risky", "can't compete"), sarcasm and jokes (/s, "lol"), remarks about what someone already owns, and products the thread title itself asks to avoid.
  4. We count people, not comments, and at most 5 people per product from any one thread, so a single thread can't push a product to #1.
  5. We hand-check the top 3 of every guide and exclude mentions that weren't real recommendations. We also checked 247 quoted or sampled comments live: 25 had been removed and are excluded, and the 15 whose author deleted their account are not named.

Order and ties: most distinct people first; when equal, the product that appears in more distinct threads. If that's equal too, they share the rank, marked "tie".

Accuracy: in a manual review of 165 fresh, randomly chosen mentions from the top 3 of every guide (Nov 1, 2026), 132 were genuine recommendations (80%). The 33 that weren't are no longer counted, but expect a similar error rate in the rest: counts are meant for ranking, not as exact statistics.

X: we also show some public X posts from people who received or gave the product. They are shown separately because they're about the product in general, not a specific recipient, and they don't change the order.

We don't show prices because they change; buttons go to an Amazon search. Quotes appear in their original language, credited by public username only. Full sources: fuentes.csv. Data collected October 27, 2026, reviewed November 1, 2026.
